March 27, 2010 - At last! We are mounting the wings! Bernie examines the the mounting points for the left wing.

Wings

December 4, 2009 - The cockpit interior is primed and ready for paint, the instrument panel is cut and prototyped, and the wings slats are being fabricated!

Panel

July 1, 2009 - The engine is mounted at last! The right wing has been closed up and the left wing is being finished. The horizontal stabilizer is installed and the door hinges fitted.

April 1, 2009 - The fuselage is on three wheel now and the rudder has been attached. Control cabling is being installed and the nose sheet metal is being added. The fuel tanks have been plumbed and installed in the wings. After electrical cabling is run in the wings they will be ready to close up.

August 21,2008 - The Jabiru 3300 engine and firewall forward kit was received and transported to the chapter hangar. We are the first to receive the newly redesigned cowl in the field. The cowl has been optimized for cooling the 3300 engine and is very aerodynamic. The firewall forward kit includes everything except the engine fluids and battery.

April  25, 2008 - A Jabiru 3300 engine was purchased at Sun 'N Fun and will be delivered in June. The rear fuselage is well under way. Here is a picture of the paint scheme we will use but with green paint instead of red.

March 4, 2008 - The parts for the rear fuselage have been laid out in preparation for starting. The elevator and stabilizer have been joined and work is almost done on that sub assembly. The wings are about one quarter completed.

February 8, 2008 - The elevator has been skinned and the connections to the stabilizer are being installed. The stabilizer requires a little more work along the trailing edge to complete it. The wing skeleton is well under way with the slat supports recently integrated with the nose ribs.

November 12, 2007 - The rudder is done, the elevator is being skinned, the stabilizer is almost ready to be skinned, and the wing skeleton has just been started.

November 24, 2007 - The rudder is ready to be deburred and riveted and the elevator has just been started.

November 14, 2007 - There are so many guys that want to work on the project that a second 4 x 8 table was brought out and the parts were dug out for the elevator. John Landolfi has been appointed the committee chair and will make progress reports to the membership at the business meetings. J J Banks is the official unofficial job boss.

November 10, 2007 - The first couple of construction sections of the manual were printed out and the rudder is under construction already! Two pop rivet guns, with a special head, were ordered and received. Pictures of the fuel tanks need to be taken and sent to Zenith. When they confirm that we have the wrong tanks, then they will send up the items we are missing along with the correct tanks.

November 02, 2007 - With the help of John Parker, who provided the truck and trailer and picked up the kit from the Roadway terminal, the 701 has arrived! It was quickly unloaded and a first pass inventory was completed. The kit now resides on the red shelving.

The inventory showed several items missing including the whole box of hardware! With a little help from tech support at Zenith we narrowed down the list of items missing to two and it looks like we received the wrong fuel tanks.

October 10, 2007 - A Zenith CH-701 kit plane has been ordered and is expected to arrive the beginning of November.

The 701 was chosen for several reasons:

  • It is a LSA certified STOL all-metal aircraft
  • Build time for the airframe is 400 hours or less using standard tools, pop rivets, and NO jigs
  • Zenith has been producing the 701 since the late 1980's
  • The aircraft will permit the widest number of EAA Chapter members to fly it
  • The life and field population of the 701 will make it relatively easy to sell
  • It is a low cost aircraft to maintain and fly

The airframe comes complete in a 12' x 4' x 3' wooden crate and will be shipped to the Stroudsburg Roadway terminal. John Parker has offered a truck to pick it up.

The kit features:

  • Complete airframe fit with drawings and manual
  • Optional bubble doors
  • Optional Nav and Strobe light kit
  • Optional cabin heater
  • Optional electric trim kit
