Background - Purchased in March of 2006, N5640S was previously owned by a fellow in Houston, TX who, interestingly enough, is the engineer in charge of the environmental systems aboard the International Space Station. Consequently, the aircraft was maintained in a most outstanding fashion.

This particular Maule has only a little over 1,500 TT and was completely overhauled in 2003. It has a total of 40 gallons useable in the mains and another 20 gallons in the wing tip tanks. The aircraft is IFR certified with a backup vacuum system. The 180 hp engine with adjustable prop cruises at 23 squared indicating about 130 mph with a 8.9 gallon/hour burn rate.
